1. About National Testing Agency (NTA)
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), which is now known as Ministryof Education (MoE), Government of India (GOI) has established the National TestingAgency (NTA) as an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained premier testingorganization under the Societies Registration Act (1860) for conducting efficient, transparent and international standards tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admissions to premier higher education institutions. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been entrusted by the CSIR, with the task of conducting of Joint CSIR-UGC NET December-2022/June-2023 or CSIR UGC NET Exam 2023
2. About Joint CSIR-UGC Fellowship
The Joint CSIR-UGC Fellowship is a research fellowship program offered by CSIR and UGC to train Indian citizens in research methods under expert guidance in various fields of science. The fellowship is tenable in Universities/IITs/Post Graduate Colleges/Govt. Research Establishments, including those of CSIR, and research & development establishments of recognized public or private sector industrial firms and other recognized institutions in India.
The program aims at developing national science and technology human resources. Each year, a large number of JRFs are awarded by CSIR to candidates holding various degrees, and students enrolled in integrated MS-PhD programs, after qualifying the CSIR test conducted twice a year in June and December.
The Joint CSIR-UGC NET is a test that determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges, subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid down by UGC. Online applications for JRF/NET are invited twice a year on an all India basis through press notification of Joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF and LS/AP.
The award of Joint CSIR-UGC NET Fellowship is for a fixed tenure and does not imply any assurance or guarantee for subsequent employment by CSIR-UGC NET to the beneficiary. The validity of qualifying certificate of Lectureship/Assistant Professor is forever.
3. About Junior Research Fellowship Stipend
CSIR provides a stipend of Rs. 31,000/- per month for the first two years to a JRF selected through the National Eligibility Test (NET). Additionally, a contingent grant of Rs. 20,000/- per fellow will be given to the University/Institution. The fellowship will be governed by the terms and conditions of CSIR, UGC, or Research Scheme, as applicable. If the fellow completes two years as JRF and is registered for Ph.D., the fellowship will be upgraded to SRF (NET), and the stipend will be increased to Rs. 35,000/- per month for the 3rd and subsequent years. The assessment of the fellow's research progress/achievements will be conducted through an interview by an expert committee consisting of the Guide, Head of the Department, and External Member. The External Member should be the chairman of the three-member committee, and the fellow's progress will be assessed at the end of the 3rd year for such up-gradation. If the committee does not recommend an up-gradation or the fellow has not registered for Ph.D., the candidate will continue as JRF with a stipend of Rs. 31,000/- per month for the 3rd year. The number of fellowships for each subject is limited.
4. Joint CSIR-UGC NET Examination December-2022/June-2023
- Joint CSIR-UGC NET Examination for December 2022/June 2023 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This exam is aimed at determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and for determining eligibility for Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor in certain subject areas falling under the faculty of Science & Technology. The exam will be conducted in selected cities of examination centres spread across the country, as given in Annexure-III. The subjects for which the exam will be conducted are enlisted in Annexure-II, based on the syllabus available at www.csirhrdg.res.in.
